    Good source to learn SEO

During this winter break, I am planning to spend some time on SEO and apply it to my website.

Based on your experience, what do you guys suggest I should do to learn SEO?

    1. Should I get some books and read it? If yes, then which books?

    2. Is there any site which have good articles starting from basic?

In short, I am looking for an effective method to learn and also which can be done in 1 month. I agree that 1 month may not be sufficient to learn the entire SEO but at least I am looking to build good basic.

    Thanks

Build a website.... watch what happens.... write results in SEO log.

Make some changes based upon readings or advice given here... watch what happens.... write results in SEO log.

Make some changes based upon readings or advice given here... watch what happens... write results in SEO log.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd steps a few times, reflect on what you have learned. You are now in a position of experience and can start making decisions on your own and if persistent you will become hard to beat.

Now for the Master's level.... create content that people will link to because they like it and not because you do anything for them in exchange. Do this repeatedly and exceptionally well and you will have a site that is rock solid in the SERPs, beats almost everyone when a new page is uploaded and with a few good links per page will dominate your theme.

fathom's right this place is excellent and EGOL's advice is a must for learning.

basically i'll think you'll want to look at keywords, on-site, and off-site optimization as some main categories to start. As for books...for anything like this you won't find an up-to-date book (print book anyway). You should be able to get the basics in a month..but it's still a process to impliment and maintain.

I have to say I was completely stupid as far as SEO went before I looked over this forum for the course of a 30 hour marathon of SEO study

Now? I still feel stupid! But, I think I'm slowly getting the ideas down, now the only thing left to do is watch and wait for results one bit at a time.

I don't think a book will solve all your problems... the internet is the biggest resource there is for learning this stuff, both on-hand and from stuff people write on forums and articles, as well as blogs. Also, it's all free and consistently updated material.
