General SEO Question

Alright, well I own my own top level domain and website hosting and I'm putting together a portfolio website for myself to have all of my web design and photoshop related work on along with some other things.

Anyway, I'm setting up a website with the works I have a blog, forums and still working on the website portion of it just havn't decided if I'm going to need that or if I'll just use the blog. But I was wondering, if someone here could tell me the best way to go about this whole SEO thing?

By the way, I'm just starting to learn css and php I know some html but I just heard about this SEO hype and I'm trying to learn some more about it because it seems like a lot of people are doing it now.

Thanks guys and any and all is appreciated.

I would also add to read posts on this forum for specific methods you should be looking at. If you want specific advice, you need to add more detail about what you're already doing and where you want to go with your site. For a general list of things to do, see new_seo's post at http://forums.seochat.com/search-engine-optimization-28/new-member-need-your-help-207478.html (the last one).

Thanks.

For anyone else with the same question as me -- www(dot)good-tutorials(dot)com/search/tutorials/SEOHas a list of some pretty good SEO tutorials if you're interested. If you've found some and like to post them please so, I'd like to look at them.

(Remove the (dot)'s and place a period where those go xD, I wasn't allowed to post a link because I'm new.)
