can any body tell me what are the benefits of forum posting?why we do it?sorry i am asking with reference to link building.not simple forum posting

Forum is discussion.We can share and gain knowledge.Forum posting along with signature helps to increase backlinks.In some forums you need to signin if you want to see the signature such forums wont help.Beacuse google spiders wont have account in forums.
