Which form of url should be used with/without www?

    Hi

A website may or may not have a 301 redirect. In such case, which url should be used for building links?

Either with www or without www for a non 301 redirect site.

    and

Either with www or without www for a 301 redirect to www.domain.com site.

    and

Either with www or without www for a 301 redirect to domain.com site.

And, another query regarding the same..

For https site can i use https extension for hyper linking my anchor text?

Some time in SERP results keywords are ranked for without www form of urls(domain.com), in this case which form of url should be used with/without www?

How does these changes affects the ranking of a site, if any?

Hope to find the right answer from experts!!

    Thanks in advance! !

There's no "right" answer to this question, 'cause both solutions will work much the same. But to put a long story short,
    1) use a non-www version as your main URL, but put a 301 redirect from the www-version.
    2) yes, you can use https in your links - why not (especially if you've got a redirect anyway afaiu)?

    Thanks for your reply S_black!

At sometime the landing URL for non www site changes in its position due to with and without www(i.e. landing url change between www and non www). By doing 301 we can avoid this kind of problem. But when you have 1000s of backlinks for with www and without www each; 301-ing can affect your ranking?

Either is fine to use, so simply check to see which has the most authority and redirect to that.

For example, lets say domain.com have 32 authority and www.domain.com has 64 authority (checking with OSE) I would set a 301 to redirect the non-www to www which is what I generally pick for all my domains from the start but that's just my personal preference not the rule of thumb!

Check my sig links or search on here for the code you need for .htaccess redirects to do either of these and more

But when you have 1000s of backlinks for with www and without www each; 301-ing can affect your ranking?
It shouldn't effect your rankings in the slightest, you're just telling the search engines which variation you would like them to use (you should also set your "preferred domain" in webmaster tools).
