First achievement
Hi guys,
I would like to share with you my first success (even I am sure half of you will laugh, half of you will feel a little of nostalgy remembering your first steps and the remaning ones are probably newer here then I am). I started to optimize my site and get some links 18 days ago. Since few days I have less then 10 links pointing to my site (according to link: www.mydomain.com) at google and of course PR 0. For my most competitive two keywords (separate search in google 370 000 results and for exact phrase search 31 600 results) I am according to http://www.top25web.com/cgi-bin/report.cgi somewhere between 400 and 500. Anyhow I can not find my page in the top 1000 search results when I am searching for it myself. Is this webpage reliable ? What other online Search Engine ranking tool would you recommend ? Thanks for your opinions. |

When you search for your site "manually", do you use a local google version (google.be for example) or just google.com? Your site might actually do better on google.com for some reason...
Seo-guy has a similar tool ( http://www.seo-guy.com/seo-tools/se-pos.php ) but don't go overboard with these searches. Build more links, since it's very early days |

Thanks for your feedback - few more newbie questions
I have four words in anchor phrase:
"primary keyword" "secondary keyword1" "and" "secondary keyword2" Something like: "Domain sale and appraisal" I hope I do not waste the potential of anchor phrase. First I had something like "Domain sale guide and appraisal tips" but I reduced the ineffective words. I searched manually on google.com. Xaver |

Have you tried seo-guy's tool?
Also bear in mind that some of these tools need you to add/remove the preceding http:// and/or trailing slash (/) when you enter your url. Top25web is very tolerant though. But you're right. Top25web seems to be unreliable. I tried it with my own site and it CAN'T find my ranking for a more difficult keyword (#150) whereas I CAN find it using Google. And their Yahoo search doesn't find anywhing. Try the other tool and see if it's better. Edit: http://www.prsearch.net/ranking.php also works, but only if you reduce your url to the bare (www.)domain.com (in which case it can't find a listing on dmoz anymore when the actual url is www.mydomain.com/somedir/ - so that's a little "bug") Anyway - it will find your domain in the top 1000. I tried seo-guys tool, but within 10 links deep there is no positive result.
Does not it mean that this tool checks only first 100 results ? Last edited by Xaver : October 22nd, 2004 at 05:09 AM. |

That would imply that Top25web tool is faulty (which I suspected already - see above). Sorry if that was not the news you were hoping for...
