Post Effect on ranking if i change the targeted url for old keyword

    Hi All,
I have a keyword "Lasagna Recipe" and it's targeted url was http://www.mydish.co.uk/recipes/recipes-by-ingredient/pasta-recipes/lasagne-recipes but now i have changed the targeted url.
Now new targeted url is http://www.mydish.co.uk/pasta-recipes/lasagna-recipes and i think it is fine now but i am worried about this keyword ranking.

Please tell me that will it affects the ranking and should i do some submission for that keyword with new targeted url for creating back-links.

Obviously it will take time to get the ranking up for a new URL. Maybe you could do a permanent redirect from the old URL to the new one? This would capture all the traffic then, hopefully.

Yeah you need to do a 301 redirect.

You will experience a drop in traffic for a period of several months (although exact time varies a lot)

It would be better to put the 301 redirect up before changing URLs.

Better still, it would be better not to change URLs at all, but it sounds like you have already done this.

Please clear one doubt more, those backlinks which i had created with old url through linkbuilding will still help in getting ranking of that keyword or those backlinks are useless now.

If you are thinking of changing your domain then need not to worry. Al you have to do is -

    1. Use 301 Permanent Redirect to New URL
    2. Use Canonical Tag

and don't forget to Inform google about the Domain Change through Google Webmaster tools.

    Hi,
Since a 301 is the permanent redirect and google and all other search engine regard it as all the credit has been shifted to the new URL. Once a 301 is setup all the link juice start shifting to the new URL, but during the shifting process some of the link juice left and you do not get 100% back link benefit of the older URL to new one.

While a user search for the keyword that you targeted for old URL, the same old URL will be shown in the SERP untill the new URL is not get all the advantage of older one. If your new page is more better than older one, has more good content and optimized well then you will see the new one in SERP after some time. But by that time you will see the older one and the user will be redirected to newer one due to 301.

You need to get more links if you want the result to appear more quicker than it is going to be done by shifting the Link juice. To maintain the trust you should build more back links. You can build on the same page where you were getting the link for your older URL or you may look for some other domains of your niche.

    regards
    zabalex
