It could be. What are you planning to change exactly?

I will go beyond dzine and say yes, 100%. Any design change (that involves code) can make a change in rankings.

Did lots of redesign and never suffered any changes, cause I only changed the look.

If you retain all pages, their names, their content, link structure... and basically just change the images and colors making the look of the page... nothing will move.

If you change any content or text that is weighted by the algo, then, it will most probably have an impact on your serps.

@joshz Apart from changing the logos and some of the CSS files maybe. But yeah: there's bound to be SOME impact if this is a serious design overhaul

    So....... @knovial06 ........please elaborate

PS: Joc beat me to it. Still: we all agree methinks.....

    • joshz → agrees: Funny story, I had a client email me several years ago wanting a 'site redesign'. When I asked for details he said "Please just replace our logo to the new logo". That was his huge site redesign. Shrugs :)

If you are only changing the look of the website it shouldn't affect your SEO rankings.

If you start changing the page addresses, the text on the pages or make major changes to the HTML code structure then you will affect your rankings.

If you're going through a redesign use it as an opportunity to evaluate your current pages. Can you redesign them and actually make them better so your search engine rankings will improve?

    Hello Dear,
Only design changing can not rank you site. There are lots of thing a site need to rank.
    1. Good interface (Site must be unfriendly)
    2. Content must be unique and point to point.
    3. User-friendlily URL
    4. Good backlinks.
So see what you done still in your work.

It depends, if its a change design wise then the only change it will bring (if its a good change) is potentially higher ROI. If its a change as far as actual code, then it would potentially increase rank as google will be able to index it better etc.

I also think, if you change content and names of content like alt tag etc, it effect on SEO. But if you change only design then it attract user as result user will increase or decrease according to design whether they like or not. But one thing, it should be SEO friendly.
