    Duplicate meta/content on the same URL??

    Hi there,

    I did a site audit on SEMrush and it has flagged duplicate content/meta issues for the same url. The only difference is one url has www.

    https://www.kollect.ie/user-sign.php
    https://kollect.ie/user-sign.php

    How can I fix this?

    Thanks,

    Claire.

    You need to decide which URL you want to use, the 'www' or the non 'www' version and add the correct redirect in your '.htaccess' file..

    Ok great thanks! Just wondering if I force the non www. version of the domain to be used, and I have it linked somewhere on the web, will that user hit a 404?

    It's a canonical issue, the same site has two different URLs. You can choose one for your site, www or non-www, the choice is yours. You have to make a 301 redirection to redirect the whole website to the same URL with the .htaacess file.
    here's the code to redirect the file
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L,R=301,NC]

    Hi there, so my developer says he has done a 301 redirect to resolve the duplicate content issue. He is insistent it is done. However when I use semrush to crawl the pages it is still saying there is duplicate content, counting the www. and the non www. Should I be relying so heavily on semrush? Could it be wrong?

    I am willing to bet there is a misunderstanding between you and the developer. Happens a lot with folks.
    You have urls pointing to the www version and the non www versions.. In addition you have http and https urls mixed so your rewrites are not correctly done.

    Try using the following rules to fix these issues. This should resolve the issues. Also make sure you have

    Code:
    server {

        server_name kollect.ie;
        rewrite ^/(.*)$ https://kollect.ie/$1 permanent;

        server_name www.kollect.ie;
        rewrite ^/(.*)$ https://kollect.ie/$1 permanent;
    }

    You may have done the redirects correctly. I should have looked a little deeper....
    You definitely have mixed content urls on the site.... for example.... you will have to go thru your site and remove the www from your urls.

    You should remove the www from the follow url. This is where you are generating the problems with mixed content and such.

    Code:
    <div class="copyright">
     Copyright 2017. All Rights Reserved. Design and Developed by <a href="https://www.kollect.ie">Kollect</a>
    </div>
    also in your menu system.... index.php and kollect.ie they are the same page. Replace index.php with kollect.ie.
    Code:
    <li><a href="index.php" class="hidden-md hidden-lg">Home</a></li>

    Thank you, I have explained this to my developer and he made the changes you said. He said that it is 100% fixed now, semrush isnt saying it is, but maybe it takes time. Could you have a quick look and see is it fixed now? I really appreciate this help. Thanks again.
