    Post Duplicate content issue while moving from http to https


    We have changed our domain from HTTP TO HTTPS

    But Google is showing the duplicate content error for (demosite.com) we have used htaccess redirect for our site but still showing error.

    so should we use a canonical tag on https site or http site plz help?

    What do you mean by duplicate content error?

    I have check on the semrush site auditor tool and it's showing an error like duplicate content as there is another version available with https.So it got confused whom to consider.

    1. Make sure it 301 redirects from http to https
    2. Add https version of the url as the canonical on each page

    In the search console, first verify your websites for the both versions http and https then under settings there is an option called preferred domain. There you have to fix which version we want to keep with http or https.
