dropping with better keyword density?

hi there

how can your position drop when tools show you, that your keyword density went up and nothing else (title, rank...) important changed. I thought I was smart when I shortened the text to make it denser

and it's not like in the top10 or so, so it's not the competition that got better...
anyway maybe anybody had that before and minds to drop a line.

thanks
alex

btw nice board ;-)

not TOO dense ;-)

not TOO dense ;-) if that's what you mean, somewhere around 3 or 4 %,
that should be ok, or not?

thanks for the quick answer ;-)

I keep hearing up to 12% is ok with google.

I stick around 10%. I'm by no means any master, I do have top 10 spots on searches that get 10,000 (so the overture tool says) on google.

However for higher traffic keywords I see people thast are doing 25%
so.. I give up LOL

Did you move the realive positions of your keywords to a "lower" location on the page?

Feed the page of interest to http://www.ranks.nl/cgi-bin/ranksnl/spider/spider.cgi?lang= along with your key words and see what pops out at you.

Cheers,

you are kidding, right?

I've been told 10 is near the spam-margin and dangerous (after all it means every 10th word on your page is your keyword...), so I stayed way under it and analysing top10s with 'normal' keywords I see them around 5%, max. ...

that's exactly why I am confused, I should be up there ;-)

regards
alex

The problem is just hearing things and then seeing what is really working.

do searches for things like

make money

or work from home

and then run a density check on the top 10.

You will see a LOT of them are spamming.

hmmm

hi bear

ok I checked that script. wow! that's what I call detailed reporting. maybe a bit too detailed ;-) which numbers would you say are the most important to look at?
have to check it out later (it's getting late in this part of the world...)

but what you are basically saying is 'close your eyes and go for the 10%+' ..., right?

thanks a bunch for all the replies
alex

I think it also has to do with keyword prominence (someone let me know otherwise)....the #1 in my main keyword was 10 points ahead of me...maybe that's why they were doing better.

proximity also matters.

Oh also something else.

Let's say you're targeting "make money on the internet"

Since 90% of searches (or so) are done without exact pattern matching (meaning most people don't use quotes around terms) the terms "on and them" are common so they are thrown out.

You will see sites that are higher ranked because they reworded their phrase to match.

Internet Make money
Make money internet

are the same thing.

But how much and in exactly what combination all those factors count is a closely guarded Google secret.

Keep looking at all those pages that rank above yours to determine why.

I just keep on trying things that make sense to me eventualy I'll hit on the magic key. Of course the next day Google will change how it Ooogles.

Cheers,
