    Domains and sub-domains help

    Hiiii

Actually, we have a domain example.com
Now we are planning to split this domain into sub-domains like staging.example.com and other.

My question is if we are divided our domain into subdomains is anything effected to SEO . If effects what
will change....( can you give me a detailed explanation if possible provide a reference link)

Basically dont do it if its important to your site as it will split your site into the sub domains and each will / can rank on their own merit (so in theory compete) as you will lose the power the pages gave to your main site.

It used to be a small trick that people would create loads of subdomains in order to fill page 1 of google with all their links as each subdomain can rank. Google soon spotted this so now will only display results from 1 domain including sub domains so for ranking they appear as 1 site but in terms of authority they are separate islands.

There was for sometime the common thinking that for example blog.domain was equal to domain/blog as Matt Cutts from google came out and said they where roughly equal and google understand sub domains are like folders. What he failed to say is how link juice is passed around the 2 and domain authority is effected so separating out your content unless its for good reason such as different languages could have a negative effect on the main site by loss of their power.

I found this article which supports the latest thinking on this https://moz.com/community/q/moz-s-of...-need-updating which might be worth a read.
