Domain Names/Good Market to Capture
Hi all - post from a newbie.
I would like to set up a new website selling celtic and Irish wedding rings. Celtic Wedding Rings gets three times more traffic than Irish wedding rings. When looking for a domain name - should I go just for the higher traffic - celtic-wedding-ring.com or should I try incorporate the two keywords - celtic-irish-wedding-rings.com - both are available? Also I hear a lot of people say that should be an easy keyword to get about their website. How do you determine if a keyword should be easy to get or not? Also if I look at people who actually search for Irish Wedding rings its around 50 a day - celtic around 200 a day. Would this be considered as a good market - or too low a market? Of course just going for wedding ring is around 4000 a day - however I presume (rightly or wrongly I dont know) that this keyword is out of my league? In other words - how do you know what is out of your league? Thanks in advance for any help from a green newbie! Usually I say sorry I am a newbie - Irish say sorry even if someone pushes into you in the street by mistake - so New Years resolution - no apologising!! |

i would personally go with celtic-wedding-ring.com as it seems less spammy than celtic-irish-wedding-rings.com. but there's no reason not to throw in an irish wedding rings page if they are different. i would say the competition is not too stiff - given some work, time, and patience, you can probably do ok.

"i would say the competition is not too stiff" How do I know this? By checking out how many webs there are for these products or?? As for the product basically what is celtic is Irish - same designs etc. |

Do a search in google for your keywords and take note of a couple of things. How many results are returned? And of the top 50 or so, how many sites look like they are highly optimized? The number of returned results that I got was within what I consider to be a reasonable level. I did not look at how many sites were highly optimized - I judged it purely by the number of results returned. So, if many of the sites are well-SEO'd then that opinion might change some - but I'd still probably go for it. Ok, if celtic and Irish designs are the same, then just use both terms on the pages you optimize and you should be able to rank for both.
also, overture ppc prices for celtic wedding ring is not extremely high, so that also shows the competition is something you can probably deal with. |

Domain names are cheap a .com should be available for 6-9 USD. You should buy all the domains you don't what copetitors to have. If you plan to brand you should have a domain like: mybrand.com If not I would go for: keyword.com or if it is taken: keyword-keyword.com This look spammy and is harder to type: keyword-keyword-keyword.com This is worthless: keyword--keyword.com |

I thought the general concensus was that you must have a dash between words for google to search properly? If I lump it all together - celticweddingrings.com people have said it would not work well? Promise I wont apologise - but am I missing something? |

Here is a releated Webmasters Word thread: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum...?highlight=dash However achor text is more important than any domain name. So celticweddingrings.com is ok if people use "Celtic wedding rings" as achor text. I wish you the best of luck. |
