    Does Yoast Sitemap??

    Hi, Guys!!

I have a question about 404 pages. Does Yoast remove 404 pages from site map or I have to do it manually? The developer was creating and deleting pages for testing and he did not tell me about that. Now there are a lot of pages in Webmaster with 404 errors. What to do in this situation? One more thing, Does Yoast add new pages and post page automatically to sitemap?

I use free plugin of yoast, it does not remove 404 pages from sitemap.

For 404 pages I would recommend using the Redirection plugin to point broken URL's to your home page.

But what is logic behind this? Why redirect 404 to home page?

Redirecting a 404 is not a fix its just hiding the problem.
If a page is in your sitemap and no longer exists then you should remove it either manually or use a tool, if you have internal links to that page then they also need changing. I am afraid you cant do a lot about external links and this is the only reason you need to put a redirect in place if you have external links to a page.

Using a redirection plugin to mask the issue will just end up with your site being a mess and you will end up having chains of 301 redirects, this is to be avoided so its good housekeeping if you see a 404 error in search console to fix the issue before it becomes a major one.
