Does Size of Site Affect Ranking?

Hello Everyone,

I also asked this question in a request for a review of my site http://www.wirelesscove.com but I think it may be better to ask here.

To understand the question Wireless Cove lists Wireless Sites that focus on the US. We're trying to create a directory for U.S. consumers to find Wireless information.

I read that having more pages, therefore a larger site, is better for google and I've also read that having alot of pages lowers your PR. So is it better to list 10 sites per page and have more pages or have 20 or 30 sites per page and have less pages? Does it even matter?

Laura

Yes & no.

Yes - Large sites tend to have more breadth in topics thus more specific pages (content filled) to develop a wider array of term potentials.

In addition, more pages usually means more links to the top hierarchy pages therefore additional "link relevancy" thus the potential to be more "overall" relevant to highly competitive terms.

No - because many times the "overall" focus is loss in the need to add page, after page, after page.. I need more, more, more pages >> because larger sites are believed to be the way to rank better.

Without good consistent content, content diversity, page theming, and superb linking structure a site "will not" rank better... simply by adding more pages.

So in conclusion... PLANNING is what make sites (large or small) rank better... and planning takes time.
