Does linking to Wikipedia pages affect SEO ranking?

When writing my blog posts, I often link technical terms to its corresponding Wikipedia pages.

Recently, a friend told me that Google adopts the college professors attitude when it comes to Wiki links: they are untrustworthy because they are crowd sourced.

So the question is, will I get penalized for linking to Wikipedia almost exclusively in my posts and is it helpful?

It's perfectly fine, even according Google directly: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...lty-23544.html

Your friend, like the professors, is wrong.

Make them nofollow links if you're really worried.

I'd also add there's no benefits in terms of SEO either, but if they're helpful in terms of the content you're writing that's a good thing.

I link out to Wikipedia all of the time and have never had any problems. Sometimes I think that Wiki links can be overused so I'll look for something else just as relevant but I've never had any problems by linking to a Wiki page.

It does not really affect the rankings of your website if you link your article to Wikipedia pages. As the matter of fact, providing various links to the Wikipedia pages helps the users to gather more information about the specific topic in depth. These links will make your content engaging and the users might come back to your website again to find more interesting information. But, do not overuse these links, use only where the term is complicated to understand!

as long as everything in the wikipedia article is accurately sourced to trustworthy content, then i don't see any reason why it's not trustworthy content.
