    does 301 impact on ranking

We have 2 websites for our business (Health Related) (Hospital)
    Website1 - oldxyz.com (exampledomain)
    Website2 - newxyz.com (exampledomain)

(oldxyz.com) this domain running from many years simple website not optimized for seo. but a
year ago we create a new website (newxyz.com) optimized with seo and seo is ongoing on this new
    website.

Few Weeks ago we redirect (301) this domain (oldxyz.com) to our new domain
(newxyz.com) but the ranking of new domain (newxyz.com) is going down day by day.
whereas old domain (oldxyz.com) is started to rank for many keywords....

    Just fyi
    - we only redirect (301) homepage of this domain (oldxyz.com) to this domain
(newxyz.com) .. not all the landing page (urls)

    - (oldxyz.com) this domain http and new domain (newxyz.com) with https

    - ssl installed few months ago on (newxyz.com)

    - we don't use old website (oldxyz.com)

    Now my queries are:
    - the reason for drop in ranking for new domain (newxyz.com) (domain with https, seo
    optimized and on going seo)
    - shall I block the old domain (oldxyz.com) in google with robots to recover ranking on new domain.

please suggest the best way to tackle this scenario ./...

No offense but you have no idea about what you are doing. Your plan will continue to ruin your rankings.

You should have migrated the whole site not just the home page.

Do not block the old site that is the wrong thing to do.

Now what you should have done is .....

You should have migrated the old site to use https and not bothered to create a new site.

Then you should have waited enough time to make sure the http to https switch was done correctly. This would have taken at most about a week or two to verify. This would preserve any backlinks pointing the old site. As it is you have lost the link juice from the old site.

This would have saved you the cost of a new domain name. As it is you are starting over from scratch with the new site as far as SEO is concerned !

Now since you have already bought the new domain the best plan would be to implement a wildcard redirect from the old domain to the new domain, this means each url of the old site goes to the exact same corresponding url on the new site. This will also transfer any link juice from backlinks pointing to the old site to the new site. You would also implement 301 redirects for old pages that have no corresponding pages on the new site to the most relevant page on the new site.

Also since Aug. / Sept. there occurred the Medic Update. This directly targets health sites, hospitals, clinics etc., etc.. There could be other issues impacting the site but without the actual domain names of the old and new sites very limited advice can be provided.

At this point in the game, I suggest you hire someone to fix your mistakes in short order. There are many here that can fix your issues rather quickly.

Yes, 301 redirection affects SEO. It can be good or bad impact depending on the website. Like in your case it has a bad impact on your current website, block redirection asap. Good luck, hope this help

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one domain to another. 301 redirects send site visitors to a different URL than the one they originally typed into their browser. If you’re using an aged domain with backlinks, it will pass the SEO value along to the new site. A very popular tactic in today’s SEO world.

301 Redirect doesn't affect the ranking of the website. The links are passed to the new redirected website.

A 301 redirect, or also known as a permanent redirect, should be put in place to permanently redirect a page. The word ‘permanent’ is there to imply that ALL qualities of the redirected page will be passed on to the detour page.
    That includes:

    • PageRank
    • MozRank
    • Page Authority
    • Traffic Value

Yes, 301 redirection impact website ranking. 301 Redirect is a very effective tool to improve site ranking in organic search results. You can easily increase the number of backlinks pointing to your new website. In other words, internal link will eventually kick over to the new domain.

For multiple reasons, we may have to create new URLs: when redesigning a site, for the comfort of navigation or the improvement of a SEO strategy ... What however, the purpose of this redirection 301 is to indicate to the robots responsible for indexing web content the new address of a page: thus, the latter retains its value, including displaying the same PageRank. Ranking in search engines is not altered, which is fundamental for sites generating income: if the 301 did not exist, URL changes would be a drop in the turnover undeniable!
