Digitalpoint? Where is it?
Hola...I know a lot of you are probably familiar with digitalpoint.com...so for those of you who are, do you know what happened to it? It seems to disappear quite a bit and now it seems offline for several days. Anyone?

It's still there. This has happened occasionally with people. I've always thought it was some sort of DNS problem. Several people have reported the problem over the last several months, but no one has discovered why it happens. It happened to me for a week or two about 6 months or so ago, and then one day, poof, I could get there again.

I haven't heard of any issues... The last time anything was down was for about 5 minutes 1 1/2 months ago when we switched a bunch of servers physically to a different rack in the facility where they are at...
From our main servers: 11:09am up 43 days, 22:53 11:09am up 43 days, 22:39 11:09am up 43 days, 22:41 11:09am up 43 days, 22:46 11:09am up 43 days, 22:46 I'm probably on digitalpoint.com more than anyone else and I haven't seen any outages (I'm not local to the servers).

This looks more like a strange coincedence than a DP problem.
I've had something similar happening with the forums right here, especially today. It doesn't last very long (couple of minutes at most... but I've had the same message maybe ten times stating I should try and "refresh" and that an "email had been sent" to the appropriate webmaster. He/she must think I'm a webmaster spammer by now. Hope it's a glitch, and I'm not into conspiracies so that's off too ;) |

No, wit, I think that was a legitimate down-time for seochat. The digitalpoint thing only happens rarely and only with a few people and Digitalpoint himself never sees the effects. When it happened to me, it actually returned a DNS type error (as in Cannot find server or DNS Error). Yet, others could get to it fine. A handful of others have had the same thing happen to them periodically, and I really believe it is DNS related, but where the problem lies - I have no idea. Perhaps some router somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

I can't get to it either. Can't even ping www.digitalpoint.com, it just tells me "could not find host www.digitalpoint.com, please check name and try again". Bit of a weird one. Where are you based rxcllc? I'm in the UK, maybe it's something to do with that?

I've been posting there a lot and it's always been up for me. I'm in SoCal if it helps any.

I've been posting on their forums for months and never seen a problem either. I do wonder if it's localized. I'm southern California too.

Just checked, still not available for me. Don't seem to be having problems with any other sites. I'll let you know if and when I can get back in. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!

Ok...sorry. I finally learned how to register myself to all of my posts. this forum is so big I forget where my posts are! duh... Anyhow.....digitalpoint...today I can get to your site. But it is real hit and miss for me. I am located in Big Dallas, TX.
I had a very similar problem last year and found it to be my hosting company. I had a dedicated server with a company called "Huge Hosting"....I think they changed names since then, but it was something weird with them. I wound up getting in a huge fight with them and moved. I haven't had one problem since. I could access all of my customers sites from home...but when I was at our office, certain days every site on the server was unavailable. Of course they said it wasn't them, but oddly enough, since I've left, not one single problem. Ya...I love the digitalpoint tools....so it kills me when I can't get there! |

Well, if it's a DNS issue with your ISP, just use a different DNS server. From a technical standpoint you can use any name server you want. |

Well I have the same problem at home and at my office. Two different ISP's....one is cable and one is DSL. When I am unable to reach your website, it happens at both locations.
That's an interesting tidbit of info about using any DNS servers I want! Never thought about that and I'm a dreaded certified network engineer ... DOH!. Of course, I've been out of that work for about 6 years now....Thanks for that info. Next time it happens, I will change the DNS servers and see if that makes the problem go away. It's a shame though...if it's something on your ISP's end...like not updating or broadcasting info to other servers....your online business might be losing potential business. If it was just me it was happening to, I wouldn't think much of it, but there are others that say the same thing. I would hate for you to miss another 2-3 million this year |
