How can one give you the answers if you haven't asked a particular question?
I may give you general information. Canonicalization means that none of your pages is duplicated on your site. For example, your site should be accessible ether with www or with no www, but not with both variants.
Or if you have pagination on your site, like www.site.com/books and www.site.com/books?p=2, so the latter page should have rel=canonical pointing to like www.site.com/books
If you have any particular questions, you're welcome to ask them.

    Hello yamini.....
You said you have doubt in canonical url so i give you a simple example....
    You have two url....
first is www.example.com/books and second is www.example.com/category/books.
So both url are different but what happen when these both url open same page......Yes it happen,so cause of it Google take both page as duplicate content.
So prevent this problem we use canonical url..That's is one for the user and one for the search engine.
For set this use following steps.......
*Log on to your admin panel.
*Use your products tab and select products.
    *Choose a product.
*In the navigation on the left, click search engine tags.
*After then edit your canonical url.
    *Click save.
So these are the few steps for canonical url and i hope its beneficial for you.

I think that if you have products in different categories, you should not include the category name in the product URL.
For example, if Books are found in category1 and category2, there's no need to have 2 different URLs www.example.com/books, www.example.com/category1/books and www.example.com/category2/books. You can just have www.example.com/books and link to it from the categories.

Please, people, learn how to post messages without your example URLs turning into live hyperlinks. Thank you.

    Informative thread dear.
The canonical tag is a very simple one line code string that is treated in very much the same way as a permanent 301 redirect. It ensures that the PageRank, backlinks and link juice flow to the “proper url” and is not split between domains. It is fully supported by Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.

    Use canonical method:

    • When 301s can't be implemented, or take too much time
    • Duplicate content but you want to keep both pages live
    • Dynamic pages with multiple URLs of a single page (from sorting features, tracking options, etc.)
