Google unveils search updates for mobile, new Page Rank algorithm, and Knowledge Graph comparisons - The Next Web

Does anyone have any good resources on how hummingbird is going to mix stuff up for SEO?

It probably has nothing to do with SEO like the caffeine update; its not a ranking algorithm update, but an infrastructure update.

I think it has to do with everything about SEO and how we should do it from now on. The Hummingbird is all about generating results from 'conversational search', meaning quality content and using your keywords strategically within this content is very important as ever. It now disposes spamming or inserting keywords within relation with the page/content.

    Hi Guys,

    My first post here.

I am with cbp and think it is caffeine like. Caffeine when it first came out really had no affect on ranking but it drove many of the updates after that. I think Hummingbird will be similar.

I personally think we are not going to like the changes it drives. These changes seem to all about carousels and knowledge graph and making Google the destination and not just the journey to the destination. I am talking desktop here.

In the mobile space it is like what marytordecilla said, it is all about conversational search and deeper integration into Android devices. For a better idea of what it might be about here is an interview with Ben GomesGoogle's VP of search. (I found it at WMW) BBC News - Digital Indians: Ben Gomes

Well, the new algorithm certainly affects SEO if you don't focus on informative contents. The new algo is all about contents.

Well, both are almost same in nature considering core about quality contents only. However, there are some minor differences. Panda takes care about many other factors like; design, advertisements etc. However, the new algo mainly focus on quality content.

SevenCubed from WMW found this definition at wikipedia
Hummingbirds are continuously hours away from starving to death and are able to store just enough energy to survive overnight.
Sounds like Google at the moment.

What he was trying to say is that Google is eating everything in sight because of things like mobile and social not going exactly their way. At the moment Google is moving to a state where users don't have to leave Google to get answers (knowledge graph). So it is cannibalizing the traffic us webmasters used to get from Google. Google built itself on the shoulders of webmasters that it is now abandoning.

The future is fickle, just ask Microsoft. Google knows this and is therefore cashing up big now to make sure the war chest is ready for whatever may eventuate in the near future.
