Can I mask a site and do SEO?
Hi,
I've been lurking for a bit, and I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to... I have a subdomain on my main site, and I purchased a new domain to go along with the sub domain. On godaddy, I selected forwarding, and picked mask - I did this so people wouldn't know it was a subdomain of my site. I just realized the way the masking works is by putting the site into frames. So basically, is there anyway I can swing it, so that my optimization is actually seen by google? Thanks in advance |

Question
Did you contact them for support? If you did what was their answer?

I haven't contacted godaddy b/c I doubt they can or will do anything. My hosting company said to buy another account... which besides not being helpful, I don't really want to do b/c I have so-o-o much free space as it is. |

Can you add your URL? Want to have a look. Framed sites can be tricky sometimes.

Masking is out
Hi Stinko
I had suspected that you had good intensions with your question. Otherwise I would have ignored you like a stop street. The first thing I would do is get rid of the frames. I found it easier to do SEO on a non framed site. Otherwise the best you can do is set up your no-frames with meta and descriptions tags. (I doubt you will be able to do this though as I do not think you will have access to the no-frames) I must add I am not familliar with godaddy! In any case, google will still index your site and follow the links to the other domain. I have a number of domains that points to one site. Google only indexes the one. As I understand you have to hide the fact that the website is pointing to the other domain. I do not think this is nesasary from a SEO point of view, and most users won't even notice. Get rid of the frames though this will only hamper your site's success. |

thanks for your response. I think though, I was unclear in explaining why I was masking the site;
I'm not trying to trick anyone, it's a totally seperate site, I just don't want to buy a seperate hosting account for it when I have so much disc space and bandwith available. I certainly didn't make a site in frames. barf. The forwarding option from the dns registrar (godaddy) does that. I guess I'll take the issue of other ways to mask over to devshed. Thanks for your help. |

I gave up and bought hosting. I just had such a big chunk of hosting I was hoping I could get away with not buying anymore. |
