    Blog posts/categories/tags

    Hi all,

On my Drupal website, I have a blog like many others, but my "tag" (ie "author = Joe Smith" or "tag=shoes") pages are being flagged as duplicate content/title/description. Would it be best practice to use canonical on the "tagged" paged?

My /blog uses parameters (ie. ?page=1) to display the blog posts that do not make it to the front page. If i canonical the tagged pages to just /blog, but that content shows up on ?page=3, am I hurting my SEO?

Also, my blog uses categories, but the content tagged to a respective category can also show on the front page of /blog. What is best practice for reducing duplicate content/metas with blogs that use categories and tags but use parameters instead of pagination ?

    Thanks!

I use nonindex meta tag for my tag and category archives, namely because there's no original content on those pages. Have you considered that solution?
Everything will be ok in the end

If it's not ok, it's not the end

If duplicate content is found in within the website and duplicate content is around 25% or 30 % then it is ok.

Unfortunately, I don't have that option at easy access. So, if I'm canonical tagging to /blog but the content on /tag doesn't show up until /blog?page=3, am I hurting myself?

No I don't think it's hurting the website. It's just I haven't done it that way, so no actual experience but I suppose you should be fine

Where did you get that percentage number from???

I had the same problem with the travel website then my mentor said me to its ok but too much duplicate content is bad but 20 or 30% is ok if the duplicate content found within the website, but if your content is copied from another website then you have to write the content again.

Odi, there is always a better option to write fresh or better content, but for category and tag page it is better the choice to add noindex, follow tag in your meta data.
But remember, there is not any duplicate penalty exists.

You can always submit a new sitemap to Google Search Console if you don't have access to the backend of websites. I had problems using a few CMS's and this was the only real go-around.

    Hope it helps, good luck.

Actually "follow" is a default directive, unless you put "nofollow", links will be followed just fine
