Question Blog Application URL structure advice

First post on here so hi all

I am in the process of developing a simple blog application and wanted to know if the following URL structure would be ok for being indexed. I don't have the ability to rewrite URL's so I was hoping to use the format below and just parse the querystring...

Wordpress structure:
somedomain.com/2008/08/02/some-article-title-about-something/

My proposed structure:
somedomain.com/?/2008/08/02/some-article-title-about-something/

The only real difference between the 2 URL's is the addition of the question mark, however, I don't know if this will have a big impact on seo?

Thanks in advance for any help, it would be appreciated

Google can read question marks in URLS no problem.

Seems a strange url set-up to go for.

If this renders properly, communicates with your db and server side you get a 200 OK from Googlebot this is OK.

Check a website as Google Bot

Hi sandpetra,

Thanks loads for the help... I've posted this question on a couple of other forums and you're the first to have actually read what I was saying and provide relevant feedback

I checked out the GoogleBot link you posted and everything is fine, I get the 200 OK response.

Is there another url structure you think would be better for seo? keeping in mind I am stuck with standard URLs (no rewriting)

I chose:

somedomain.com/?/2008/08/02/some-article-title-about-something/

as it closely matches most other blog links and the querystring contains only one parameter which I read was a good thing, rather than:

somedomain.com/index.shtml?year=2008&month=08&day=02&article=some-article-title-about-something

Thanks again for the help
