Hi J.T
I would suggest that trying to buy a heap of back links wouldn't be the way to try and make your website get a high ranking in search result pages.
If things were that easy then everyone would be in the first page of the results.
Your best bet is to add your website to web directories and then build up the number of links your website has got that way. Or you could try to email other web masters and ask them to link up to your website and offer to exchange links with them.
I appreciate that when you are starting a website from scratch that it isn't easy but there are no quick ways to making a website get visited a heap.

The website has been up for 9 years so there should be a few links pointing to it.

Submitting to directories takes a long time. DMOZ is the only good one I know. Any others I should submit to??

Buying backlinks has to better than gaining no links?

If Google realise you are paying for your backlinks they will be exactly the same as buying no links... worthless!
In fact worse than worthless as you will have to pay for them.

Yahoo directory is a useful link to have but - at $300 PA it is expensive.

You could pay somebody to submit your site to a bunch of directories, or you could use some money to pay a professional to write some quality content which would not only result in some nice free one-way links but would also improve your site... Another possibility is to pay somebody to write an article or two about your site/services and submit it to a few article directories.

If you're determined to pay for links there are many places that broker that kind of service but remember... if Google realise they're paid links they will probably be discounted (so it's best to keep quiet about it)!

Buying backlinks and other methods such as directory submissions don't need to be mutually exclusive, and shouldn't be.

Paid directory listings are hit and miss it seems. Do your research on the link quality of the competitor sites that are listed in the directory. Check the value of the page that the link will be on. Is it a 1 pagerank with no links to it? Run away.

Buying links is tricky. Make sure you will see what the link will look like before buying, look for the quality of link based on relevance, and some form of measurement (SEOMOZ is a good place to start). Avoid site-wide links - they cost more and provide little extra value.

Another option that I've had some success with other than buying links is to create some link bait and use PPC ads to generate interest in the link bait. A short 1 week campaign, with a budget of $100 on some very directed keywords provided 53 links. About half of those were good links. A year later, around 2/3rds of those links are still active.

If you're trying to create buzz, you can also use a service like payperpost.com. I wrote a summary of my experience with them on my blog at http://ribaldmanikin.blogspot.com. You just need to ask for what you want, and you can get links for around $5 per link.

I haven't used services such as text-link-only yet. I'd be interested if anybody has had success with their approach.

You will need to check how many back links your site has got.
Just because it has been on line for ages doesn't mean that people will have started to link to it?
Folks just don't sit down and add links to other websites at random.
A webmaster needs to be very selective as to what sites start linking to them and who they link to.
Just paying out cash for links will not get your website anywhere at all let alone showing up in SERPS quickly.

Hi J.T

Do not fall for this sucker. It will be better spending some money on directory listings. Just make sure the page your listing will appear on are being indexed by Google and that the links aren't 'no follow' before you decide to spent the bucks on it. Article submissions can also be a better bet than buying backlinks. I would also suggest you look at building partnerships with other webmasters in your theme of sites and in that way build up a network where you can obtain contextual one-way links from new content additions.

I have been communicating with a newer company that acquires relevant one-way links permenantly for your site from PR1-3 pages (not just sites) and they are quite affordable if you buy 100 at a time. They even guarantee them for one year. I have not used them yet but I believe I will soon to see what they are all about. They are supposed to be mostly PR2 and 25% or more PR3. You can even pick the anchor text.

From my communications with the owner, he says that he gets 70% of his business from referrals. That says a lot about what he is capable of doing and customer satisfaction. The links run between $5.20 and 7.60 per link, depending on how many you buy. I have negotiated a lower price if I buy 100+ per month.

PM me if you want to know more. If you try them out I want to know what you think, too.

What theme are these sites, are they related to different industries or are they industry specific?

They are supposed to be relevant sites and if you find that they are not, then they will replace them for free.
