Hello there,
In considering SEP and Internet Marketing what would people say would be the BEST Link Topology for ones website? By this, I am wondering if people think that setting up sites in a looping structure, inter-linking structure, backlinking structure or whatever structure is the best when developing with SEP in mind. Any thoughts that people could provide would be helpful. Its my first post, but I have been around the groups and I can see that there is lots of knowledge floating around. Thanks in advance. rpearson ![]() |

Well your going to get several ideas from different people, but I believe desiging a sites link structure should be targeted toward the user first and the Search Engines second. Reason being that if the user can easily navigate your site, then a Search Engine spider should be able too as well. However there are things to consider. Such as link text. Try to use contextual cross linking through out your site. Using keyphrases and keywords for link text will help you rank higher for your target keyphrases. This is also true of inbound links from other URLs.
Also remember that a search engine can not read images, so try to use text links as often as possible. Also be sure to use ALT text where ever you do have an image that links to another page. Another thing to remember is the total number of links on a page. Never use more than 80-100 links per page, and remember that any PR weight that is given to the links on a page is divided by the total number of links on a page. So if you have a page that has a PR of 5 and you only have 5 links on that page those links will receive a higher PR then if you had 10 links on the same page. These are just a few tips, I am sure you will get many more, this is a very popular forum. |

rpearson,
Welcome to the forums! I have written an article on this topic that might help you gain some fundamental concepts for a linking strategy in terms of SEO. The article is posted at several sites (here too) but you can check it out at my site at: Internal Linking Structure Elements Strategy. I link differently depending on the type of site. I would recommend, you do a lot of linking between pages of your site that are within the same theme. For example, if you are selling bricks and you sell 5 types of bricks. We can name the 5 bricks as follows; rusty brick, red brick, yellow brick, round brick and square brick. You will have a product page for each brick. You might also have a landing page for all the brick categories. In addition, you might have detailed information on each type of brick in a resources section. You will want to link between all the brick related themed pages. There is a new concept that takes PR (PageRank) too a new level. This concept is called TSPR (topic sensitive page rank) or something similar but a little different named the expert theory. The concept is that Google is taking PR a step further. It is now more important to have links from related pages to your page (brick pages to your brick pages) then just a billion links. The higher the PR of those related links (expert pages should have high PR) the better off you are. TSPR is not yet applied on every keyword combo but its good to start thinking that way. Read the article to understand more about what type of links you should have. Welcome and feel free to ask away, we are here for you.
