There's no way to know with 100% certainty. Odds are, the one's you're questioning more than likely are though.

I'd disavow anything remotely spammy, better safe than sorry. Worst case scenario and your ranks drop; remove the disavow.

Google's Search Console would probably be the first place to look. webmeup.com is free I believe, which has the same link data as Spyglass too.

Third option, which is costly, is Ahrefs. If you're having a 1 time clean-up, might be worth getting the 7-day trial for $7.

Once you've dug that hole it takes a while to recover, could take up to 6 months, provided you disavowed the right links.
So you better know what yer doin.

Don't listen to these people. If you rely on tools to find bad links, it won't end well.

There is no concrete measure. You can probably say that a link is "surely" damaging if you can be 101% sure that the site where it comes from is totally unrelated to yours AND if the usage is totally off. But relevance could be very subjective so you never really know.

I would be very wary of using the disavow tool. If link relevance is on a gray area, just don't touch it. After all, "Google can assess which links to trust without additional guidance" (source: https://support.google.com/webmaster.../2648487?hl=en) so let them do it for you if you have doubts. Will save you time as well.

It depends on the domain authority, SEO MOZ tool will help about the bad backlinks...

    Comments on this post

    • matt1966 : No it doesn't. Domain Authority isn't a metric from Google. Secondly, Moz has very low amount of link data - if you're doing a clean up - Moz isn't the place to go.
