    Authorative Domain Change

    Hi,

I have a client that has quite an authoritative domain and is looking to move his full website over to a brand new domain name.

My initial thoughts on this are don't do it as you will lose so much traffic. I recommended we build some authority to the new domain first.

Now I am not sure if this is the right advice. They are also getting a new website as well as adding an SSL certificate in the new year.

Should I advise we do everything at once, launch the new site, add SSL and move to a new domain.
    Or
What should I suggest and how can they move to a new domain name without losing loads of traffic and rankings etc?

    Your help is appreciated.

The answer to that question lies in lots of research. That you think that question can be answered in a forum thread is troubling.

Thank you for your reply. I am not looking for answers here I am asking for suggestions.
I am trying to see if my approach matches what others would suggest.

i will suggest not to do all the task at same time. Hold them and transfer to the new domain slowly.

It's impossible to give any kind of complete answer without deep diving analytics, conversion rates and success metrics.

I would suggest you first read and follow KP's suggestion.

In a case if your client ask you to move to new domain, follow these steps:
1: 301 old domain to new
2: 301 all identical pages of old domain to New
3: Add new Domain to GWT
4: Follow GWT's instructions of Change of Address

After few days of Change of Address you will notice a sharp decline in visits from search engine. Don't panic (as its your client's wish to change the address) instead work on Authority, Brand & Link Building of new Domain.

    Thanks & Regards
    Sasha

It is important to put keywords on domain name so that we can get good traffic for website. If we put a proper keyword on our domain name then it is obvious that a good traffic will be awarded and we should remember that while selecting a domain name, we should focus on a good and proper name which can be easily remembered by our target customers, some examples are Google and Facebook.
