Am I doing SEO wrong?
Been spending a lot of time on my site recently and comparing links I have and links my competitors have.
Competitors seem to link all their incoming links to their home page, not the content page of there specific product i.e. category page. I try and get links into the specific category pages of my products rather than my homepage.
Am I doing it right?

Don't tell your competitors what you are doing and keep doing it.
Only one third of our links go to our home page. You want your selling/landing pages to place high in the SERPs. The home page will take care of itself as far as links.
Normally if a customer hits the home page first they have to navigate to your selling page. You will lose a lot of them before they click, click, click to that page. Keep doing what you are doing.
