Alt Tags for Re-occurring images

If you have icons that appear frequently throughout a website (to indicate a link) should you put the same alt tag each time it appears, no alt tag or a different one that is optimized to describe what page the link takes you to. I am afraid if I use a different alt tag several times for the same image, it may be viewed as deceptive by search engines. Does anyone have any experience with this or advice?

I remember I read some time ago that alt tags have been created so that webpage builders can have a way to describe what pictures are about ( for those text only browsers ). Take this definition, analize it and decide yourself what's the best thing for your site. Good luck .

djstreet agrees: the purpose of alt is for text browsers. seo is not the first purpose.

Discipline for alt tags

Hatpteam,

for the same images you should really use the same alt text each time. You won't fool the engines by altering your text.
