Yes Google has been gunning aggressively to the non-https website. Latest announcements says that from July 2018 they would start marking all website as "NOT SECURE" if it does not have SSL certificate.

Yes, really good article. We should change our HHTP version to HTTPS version. For this reason, we need to purchase SSL certification. As Google prefers HTTPS sites then we should upgrade to HTTPS from HTTP.

No you don't. Let's Encrypt is a free, automated, and open certificate authority by the non-profit Internet Security Research Group (ISRG)...
By the way https is only the visible part of the iceberg, you should be implementing other things as well:

    HSTS
    X-XSS-Protection: 1; mode=block
    X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN

Oh and by the way that is free too.

    This is interesting !!

Everybody is of the opinion of Let's Encrypt merely because it is free!!

But think through this...how many of the website owners know how to get their URL "https". Just by getting free ssl from them wont make their website "https".

If you know what I mean then Yes...that is where they make money from us!! The support charges, which generally other SSL certificate provider do not charge.

Sometimes back I had written an article on GoDaddy and how they fool the customers by luring them with very minimum price. You should read it here https://www.https.in/blog/ssl-certif...of-this-daddy/

@Admins: I am not trying to promote anything by giving links here. Trying to educate readers that how organizations lure by giving free products.

SSL is indeed a complex subject and in lot of cases, Let's Encrypt is not the best solution, but most of the people that will be wanting to switch to https only because of this notification do not need a strong SSL certificate because they will not transmit any sensitive data to or from the website. )And most of then won't even have a secured password to access their backend or DB by the way.)

Now when it comes to website hosting or transmitting sensitive data (e-commerce, banking, online services, etc...) then it worths taking it a step further an use a real SSL certificate issued by a company (comodo is one of them but there are others) and why not push to the EV SSL certificate.

how many of the website owners know how to get their URL "https". Just by getting free ssl from them wont make their website "https".
This is not very complicated to do, Cpanel or plesk (only to mention these two) handle it in a very user friendly way, and I doubt anyone running a server without such system would have any trouble installing them. When it comes to the site config it depends wether you are running NginX or apache, with apache most of it can be executed via htaccess file for NginX things are little trickier but nothing undoable if you take 5 to 10 minutes to search for an answer online.

But that's just a personal feeling about this matter.

Irrespective of the data being transferred from client to server who would like to show their URL marked as NOT SECURE! not to mention with RED COLOR. I feel this mandate it more related to make this internet a safe place (referring to phishing activities here).

Since you are familiar with hosting environment and other related server activities it may not be complex with you. Being a digital marketing guy I generally deal with website owners who are not so familiar with such technical aspects but wanting not to get their URL flagged as NOT SECURE. For them support really means a lot.

We both do share our opinion that is how we build conversion for betterment of all community members.

in the recent announcement, Google said that it chrome browser from July 2018 will show a warning to the user visiting an insecure website. So definitely it will affect the user experience on these websites and will increase the bounce rate. The user generally avoids the insecure site.
So it becomes important to implement SSL to websites.
