Address bar details?

Hi.

I am learning about SEO and am not sure if I am doing the right thing.
I have a conference listing website and the listings are retrieved from a database.
Below is an example of what will come up when a venue is selected :
(address).../conference.php?reference=402

I read in a SEO book that search engines will see this sort of thing as the same page, when actually I have quite a few venues and only the reference will change eg : ...conference.php?reference=412.

Will all my venue pages get indexed or not.
If not what can i do so that they do get indexed?

Kind regards
Donovan

Search engines are smart enough to understand that different parameters in URLs may lead to different pages, however I don't see any reason to not mod_rewrite them to SEO-friendly URLs:
/conference.php?reference=402 ---> /conferences/402/index.php

Or even better:
/conference.php?reference=402 ---> /conferences/confname/index.php
where confname is some descriptive name of this particular conference.
