I have released two new tools for actual site augmentation. They can easily be used independently, as they do different things, but they marry well too.
One is a dropin module intended for SSI-inclusion on any
.shtml page (or any page that can be renamed to be
.shtml) to assure ever-fresh, changed page content; unlike some of my other such modules ("Weather", "Rates"), which return modest but nontrivial amounts of data, this one returns a very short, simple, yet amusing and even tantalizing sentence, with a link. It is best seen in action, and you can see an otherwise blank dummy demo page at--
seo-toys.com/omniknow-topic/sample.shtml
--(which address I hope will make it through moderation). Reload it a few times, and follow the link at least once. Of all I have done, some large, some small, this I think is my favorite for its sheer fun value. If you want to follow up and read more, or download it, it is the "Know" toy, described and linked on the front page of my SEO-stuff site.
The other toy, "ReDate", will, when run, update the date/time stamp (the "last modified" date) of every
.htm,
.html, and
.shtml file on all of your sites , though you can block it from any directories you choose. It is especially useful for sites with
.shtml pages whose changes are mainly or wholly in the material they ssi-include, because the date/time stamp of an
.shtml page is not affected by included material, so you need another way to let the searchbots know that your pages have changed content.
The "ReDate" package is also described and linked to from the front page of that SEO-tools site.
