Question 301 redirect to non-www, pros and cons?

I am currently about to redirect from one domain-name to another.
This gives me the chance to choose between using www and not using www for my new site as in:

    http://domain.com or http://www.domain.com

Here are my reasons and why I am leaning towards dumpng the www. prefix.

1.the www. -version is technically a subdomain.
2.Four character less in URL - Less typing and data-transfer is good.
    3.The general concept of streamlining/shortening.
4.Even if people type www. out of habit I can easily redirect them to the non-www.

I have googled for advantages/disadvantages for each but haven't found much. Most people seem to lean towards www but mostly for the sake of tradition as it is a remnant from the past and still by far most common.

I have not totally made up my mind so before I go through with the redirect I would like to check if you guys have any thoughts about this?

I don't think it matters which you choose... so long as you use a proper redirect.

Any other opinions about this subject?

Does anyone have any arguments for actually keeping the "www." in front of domain-name?

People generally tend to link to a site using the www. So the effect of all such links that you get will take quite some time to kick in.

Personally, I don't like redirecting www to non-www. I prefer keeping the standard URL structure

    http://www.domain.com/

agree with pro_seo... people usually use www which is a the standard i believe... though Google and other search engines can find with or w/out www.

I'm with my colleagues above too... I always opt to include the www because it's "web-standard", but in reality - so long as the host server is set up to allow either, it doesn't matter.

There's an article about it at W3C here
