1 big site or 10 smaller sites

I am developing a new affiliate site, think it would be better to have 10 sites with 15000 pages each or 1 site with 150,000 pages? These sites have decent content, but I am also going to use the pages as a source for backlinks to my other affiliate sites. Any opinions are super appreciated.

Having multiple sites is better if you're planning more long term, as it will better allow you to cope with fluxuations in searches for, and profitability of, certain keywords.

If you're planning that big, do 10 sites. It will keep the navigation easier to use.

Now, if we were talking 10 100 page sites versus one 1000 page site, it could be different. All depends on how small is small.

I would go for 10 sites, one big site never works out.

(I will cover this in my 1000th post, it will be posted in a week or so. I just need to type in 50 non sense posts.)

Hmm..I was just thinking about this very thing the other day. Our site has slipped from its top spot on G to number 2. Our main competitor is now developing another two sites targeted to the closest cities. Basically they are copies of their first ones as far as format is concerned. I beginning to think that I may be forced to have additional sites if I want to keep my rankings.

Visit the most comprehensive Las Vegas Real Estate, Las Vegas Golf Homes, Las Vegas High Rise Condos and Las Vegas Homes website online.

Especially in the market you are working in. Real Estate is very competitive in Vegas. I was actually looking into finding someone who has a similiar area as mine that would be interested in a site wide link exchange. This way we both get about 15k in backlinks from a site we do not own.

Why not both?

I think if you're willing to go through all that work then why not build the 1 big site and the 10 small sites.

The smaller sites should get crawled and indexed better, the large site may perform better in the long term, but you'll have to wait eons (my ceramic hip may last longer) for it to get fully crawled.

I did something similar with one of our concepts where I played with a site design and made some smaller ones and one big mother. The big mother is starting to hit now and is outperforming all the smaller ones combined.

I would do 10 sites - you should be able to build pr sooner and also its saver to have 10 different domains instead of one / if the 1 domain is banner or something everything is gone but with 10...

I tend to agree with the 10 sites as long as you don't go overboard with interlinking them

I am planning on generating business with these sites of course. No real intentions of interlinking them at all.

Its more of a 10 sites that each point to a different website

It those ten topics are related, I prefer a big site. I believe the size of a page is one of factors that determine SERPs

I was thinking the same, but they are not all that related, Maybe I will just make one big site and then 10 small sites. Thats like 300,000 backlinks and some serious content.
