Is it time for a new Search Engine?
With Yahoo, MSN, and Google all going crazy over changes, IPO, pay for performance and battling it seems as if the loser is the end user. More and More searches are becoming less reliable. I myself have been working on a Search Engine for internal use (with friends of course) for over a year and we are quite impressed with the results (not biased lol). But I am sure there are other software developers with a concept and a product that might do what Google did several years ago. Remember Many Big Search Engines Dropped out of site due to poor performance. Web searchers are very fickle.

I can't believe no one has posted comments on this yet...must be becuase this category is not one of the first 5 on the page ;)
I'm not who you are pinging for, but I will say that I would welcome a better solution. A more relavant, and reliable search engine. Everything I've always read states that end users are not loyal to an engine - they simply keep looking until they find what they want. Actually what we could use (and their may be some already) is a "littleguy" se. One Once you get too big, you get dropped. No Yahoo, Amazon or Dmoz reslults, thank you. That's the kind of site that spreads quickly by word of mouth - the alternative underdog. I'm not trying to lessen your suggestion, just thinking out loud. That's why I don't design these things see. One would need a quickly scalable platform & design, which I'm sure yours is. Speaking of your se for internal use, any outside access available yet? I for one wouldn't mind kicking something new around. Of course you'll find no shortage of testers in this forum! Best of luck balthazar. |

Yes, I am looking for testers but I do not plan a release till next month for the outside world. The hardest part is the 100's of computers you need to spider with. They need to be running 24/7
I have been testing several methods including ones for sites using flash menu's and more. Trying a different approach, the major thing is how sites are given a "this is the result I was looking for sticker" when a user is happy with the listing. |
