href, alt + title tags?

is it really worth adding alt and title tags to links?

e.g.

<a href="http://forums.seochat.com" alt="search engine optimization" title="Search engine optimization chat">search engine optimization</a>

???

No*, alt attributes only go with IMG tags, and title attibutes are not recognised by the most important SE (read: Google) yet...

* title attributes COULD be worth the effort if your visitors benefit in some way... use them as a "design" feature, not a SEO trick, but keep in mind they COULD gain SEO value in time.

Here is what I think on the issue.

An alt tag is only a valid attibute to the IMG element so is invalid code on any other element.

alt tags should be used on images and should contain targeted keywords.

Title tags have no proven SEO bennefit (at the moment) but they can represent an increase in usability - it can mean the difference between someone clciking to the products page and buying a product - or not! Bear in mind that different browsers represent title tags differently (opera only uses one singal line so be careful with the lenght!).

alt tag is highly important part of on page SEO - it is almost as important as actual href anchor text which is vital in any competative search market.

I think you should use them mainly because, in ethics, they were created for a reason....

Like alt tags with images - they are meant to decsribe an image if someone has there images set to "off" so why not add them - as far as titles go I still recomend using them because as long as your acuratly decribing the target page - your either going to get a boost for them or your not.... But it won't hurt to have them....

Just don't use them for anything there not meant to be and they'll either help you in some se's or not.... They wont hurt...

True - SEO or not, I'm putting title attributes in wherever I feel they contribute something: links, images (along with alt), acronyms, you name it. Title attributes are useful, and will soon be embraced by the search engines too - mark my words (?).
