Google-Sun Alliance: Big Bore or Big News?
An agreement to promote and help with the research and development of each other's software products sounds like pretty standard fare, but this agreement comes from Google and Sun. Does that make a difference? Maybe not given the initial steps revealed in the press conference, but down the road, there is some serious potential to shake things up in Redmond.

Sun's technology and Google's simplicity could make openoffice into a nice suite. At the moment I still think that it's a little complicated for the average MS office user. Google stepping into the development process could make the difference.
I'm not too sure about the online/networking version, IMO too many people can see it as a possible invasion of privacy. |

Yes, invasion of privacy has been a big issue for years, and I expect it will continue to be one for a long time (it certainly makes ME uncomfortable!). But I've noticed that people are getting more relaxed about those kinds of things; more of my friends now have web-based email with a search engine such as Yahoo or Google than the kind you store on your own PC. I think this trend will continue, gradually, with occasional setbacks.
