Article Discussion: Website Re-launch and Maintaining Search Rankings
Website Re-launch and Maintaining Search Rankings After re-launching a website for a client the number of visitors from search engines dries up faster than Michael Jackson's fan base. I have seen this a number of times as an SEO consultant. In fact it happened to me. This article is written for those interested in re-launching a website while minimizing the effects on their search engine rankings. It assumes you have a basic understanding of SEO practices. So put on your propeller hats and let\'s get down to it.

Redirect pages
I noticed that in the article you say that when removing old pages and putting up client side redirects to tell the user where the new page is located add this meta tag into the page:
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> I usually only set 'index' to 'noindex' and leave 'follow' alone, we want the spider to know that it should drop the redirect page it has found (noindex) but crawl into the new page (Follow). nofollow will stop it crawling to the new page? Matt |
