Article Discussion: Website Hosting and Google Rank

The next step after planning and developing a website is to host it on the Internet. Who you're hosting with is an issue to be considered. Should you look at it with your SEO eyes or not? The issue of Web hosting is not just related to the price and features of the web hosting provider. Website owners who are far sighted consider other factors, such as search engine optimization. Does choosing a host provider make any difference in search engine rankings?

Cool Yes, your hosting company makes a difference

A decent hosting company will keep your site up and running. A great web hosting company should suggest ways to improve SEO for your site. Our current web hosting company talked our management team into a monthly fee for a program that would automatically SEO the site (2 years ago). This was before I came on board and realized the $250 monthly charge was doing us no good. The software just tracked how our keyword rankings changed from month to month on 10 phrases.

The new company we are looking to switch to has an SEO specialist on board that works with us to make sure our content is properly formatted to ensure top rankings for our niche market. I popped some in depth questions to the specialist and he had the right answers. This made me feel even more comfortable about their abilities. (They did Porsche.com and a few other websites).

If your web hosting company knows about SEO then they care about your website overall, not just keeping it up and running.[B]

Thumbs up Re:

Yes, you are right. The hosting company is smart to offer consulting services as well for SEO :-)

Anyways, I also tried to emphasise that we need to take measures to ascertain that we are not hosted on black listed IP's and SPECIAL issues like URL restructuring etc.

BTW, for my info, can you PM me your host's URL ?

Nakul,

It's a very interesting article - the impact of Web hosting on SEO. However, most of the issues discussed in the article will be deminished as search engines get smarter and smarter.

dejaone, Thanks for your comments. I agree that things go out with time. But dont you think Search Engine Algorithms are always supposed to change and so are the strategies of Search Engine Optimization ?

I feel it's always like a Cat and Mouse Game but it's always best to play safe and that lasts long..!!

Nakul, I know it's out of the scope of your article. Many SEO experts advise their clients based on how they guess search engines should work, while watching their own websites bouncing from #1 to #100. They play "Cat and Mouse Game". Good SEO should secure "rock-solid" search engin ranking based on sound SEO strategies, not "roller-coaster" rankings.

Thanks for the article

I have been wondering about that. I am not particularly pleased with my hosting company. We have been down many times over the last month or so. I have complained a lot to know avail. If google happened to go through my site when they were down, how much damage does that do? I mean will all be well the next time they come visit? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to know how important you think this is.
