Article Discussion: Submitting Your Site to the Yahoo! Directory

While most webmasters strive to get their websites listed in the Open Directory Project (DMOZ), there are other important directories available to list your site. Some of the other important directories, offering both free and paid inclusion, are the Yahoo! Directory, Zeal/Looksmart, JoeAnt, GoGuides, and Gimpsy. Because of its high profile, we will examine the costs and benefits of having your website listed in the Yahoo! Directory.

Thanks sorvoja.

When I submitted Blog Business World via the free submission method, it was accepted in only about two weeks.

Yahoo didn't even change my description, which was written in an impartial manner. The used the description as I wrote it.

They placed me in the category that I requested as well.

Since then, I have had very strong visitor traffic from the Yahoo Directory.

Not informative, no creative idea.
I'm getting fed up with those articles simply for the sake of exposure (the author and his site, a bit seo purpose). No real meaning for readers.

(John Wayne's voice) Ya know... articles, in print or online, are like tv's and videos, ya can either view them or not. It is your choice. It's what makes for diversity in this world. (/John Wayne's voice)

Hi GreatVista.

It's unfortunate that you didn't find anything informative about my article on submissions to the Yahoo Directory.

The article was written with newcomers to SEO in mind. It was was designed to help them with their submission process.

Perhaps you could help out by letting us know what articles you would consider to be more to your liking.

It was not written simply for exposure for me and for my site.

My recent letter to Yahoo:

Quote:
Please note that this is a appeal for a refund. Again, it's just a Murphy's law thing. And an amazing coincidence. We finally, after 2 years of trying to get listed via the Free Submit, decided to pay for the submission. But almost at the same time, we got approved via the free submit and
coincidentally paid for the express submit. Looking over the terms of service there isn't any contingency for a situation like this.

I have included below the original correspondences with the editor who initially approved and added our site via the Free Submit.

Please find it in your hearts to refund us.

HYere is the letter from the editor:

Subject: RE: Yahoo! Listing

This was added through the free submission.

Thanks.

Their responce:

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Customer Support.

We regret that we would be unable to provide you with a refund for your Yahoo! Express Listing account. When signing up for a Yahoo! Express Listing, you agreed to the Yahoo! Express Terms of Service which states clearly our refund policy and how the service operates:

2.0 DESCRIPTION OF YAHOO! EXPRESS SERVICE
2.2 In order for Yahoo! to consider your site for inclusion in the Directory, you must submit a valid credit card number as part of the registration form. You agree that your credit card will be charged the then current, applicable NON-REFUNDABLE fee for initial consideration for Yahoo! Express. If your site is included, you agree that after one year, your credit card will be charged the Recurring Annual Fee for further review and continued inclusion in the Yahoo! Directory.

In order to view the full Yahoo! Express Listings Service Agreement, you may visit:

https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/reference/express

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.

Now I know this is a gray area but come on. It really isn't fair to take advantage of non-commercial sites like this. I know Yahoo above all is out to make money but still. There is something to be said about common decency. To nickel and dime small sites really leaves a foul taste in my mouth for Yahoo.
