Article Discussion: Keyword Research Getting Top Search Engine Rankings

The purpose of a web page is to provide visitors with information. Whether that information is a sales pitch or free information, the function of the web page is the same--to provide information. If the web page doesn't get visitors, you as the webmaster have failed, and the destiny of the web page is to become lost amongst billions of others in an increasingly tangled world wide web. If you want to get visitors, you can pay for them, or get them for free at search engines like Google. Why Google? Right now, Google is the only search engine worth optimizing for. Besides providing other smaller search engines with results, I am increasingly seeing other search engine algorithms becoming closer to that of Google. In short, optimize for Google and eventually you will rank well on other engines too.

I gotta say....

Hey All.

One comment I would like to make about that article.

I have read and also had success only optimizing for ONE MAIN KEYWORD PHRASE per page. Stemming is ok, but using one main keyword phrase per page I think is the best practice.

This way you give yourself the best opportunity to get ranked for that one keyword phrase, your page content is relevant and unique to that keyword phrase and you can optimize and get ranked for far more keywords and pages.

I enjoyed the article. Well written. The one thing that I believe should have been stressed even more is the selection of the keywords/keyphrases BEFORE you attempt to create the page. Your text should be word-smithed around the selected kw's being mindful of density as the page is created. Too many of us create a page then try to force kw's in; often in an illogical or almost unreadable fashion. In addition, I would have stressed text anchoring important keywords used in the internal pages from the home/index page. As said before, I believe the article was a worthwhile read.
