This is probably a good article, but I quit reading it halfway through because I got tired of having to click through to the next page. I understand the seo reasons for splitting an article up into separate pages, but this one was too many! Needless, to say, I didn't bother finishing the article.

Too many pages - response

Hi, I am the author of the article, Mitko Gerensky-Greene. It seems that the article is too long for this format where it is broken into many separate pages. I can understand your frustrations and unfortunatelly can offer nothing more than an excuse -- the publisher decides on the format of publishing. However, you might want to download the PDF version of the article -- it is a one-piece document.

Make a great day,

Mitko Gerensky-Greene

That would be like saying you bought a really good book, started to read it and enjoyed it, but alas it was too long so you abandon it and do not finish reading. To each his own, but it was a excellent article and I suggest you muster up the brainpower to finish reading it ;)

No actually, its not like reading a book (I usually read at least 4 books a week). SEO Chat can be very slow-loading these days, and having to click to load new pages after reading a few sentences numerous times and waiting for the page to load (i have highspeed - not slow due to my end) is aggravating. I'll do it a couple times, but 10? Nah...got better things to do with my time. (I can flip a page in a book lightening fast btw). And I will download the pdf and finish reading it. But there's a limit to how much time I'll waste waiting to go from page to page to page to page to page to page to page just to read one article.

Well then try looking at it from a different perspective. The content that you have come to know and love and read isnt free. Believe it or not, we actually PAY our writers for our content. And it is those page turns and clicking next page that allow Seo Chat to stay in existance so we can all enjoy the forums and the content.

Ok, don't want to turn this into a big thing. Just think there is a fine line between keeping users happy and keeping the site profitable. In the long run, both have to occur. (I'm pretty sure I flip enough pages in these forums all by myself to have paid for that article btw. <grin>). Anyway, I'll drop this as it isn't all that important, but its just one of those "usability" problems that irked me that day.

Understood. We are constantly working on making the site speedier, we have just implemented some caching options and are doing some more optimization tonight to all of our servers (including Seochat.com) so hopefully your user experience will be faster.

I completely agree with you -- there must be a meaninful balance between usability and profitability. In the end no information site will be profitable if the readers are annoyed with difficult to follow navigation or slow download time.

By the way I have not been paid for the article (yet?)...

Is this the place for that? Please email norbertatdevelopershed.com - sheesh.

And reread my above post - we are working on optimizing the speed of the site.

I appologize if I offended anyone with my post!

I did send an email to Norbert. I was just indicating to the reader that the author does not control everything and the publisher has the final say about how things are, which is perfectly understandable.

Having said that, I do believe that as publishers you have to be able to handle objective opinions on your publication, just as authors should be able to handle objective opinions on their writing...
