I think this article is a timely reminder to all webmasters that a sucsessfull online business is'nt all about traffic generation.

Personaly I've allways been a beleiver in the old addage that; You can catch more flies with honey than vineger

I'm dead against the snake oil and b.s type of sales copy, (nothing turns me away from a site faster), but I believe well thought out design and copy can be hugely beneficial to a sites bottom line.

valid argument. a good website is the results that meet your pre-defined goals, whether it's conversion, traffic or search engine ranking.

Yep, I am working on my site right now too... I read a book recently also, Don't Make Me Think by Krug... had lots of this sort of stuff in it. I am redesigning all of my landing pages, tweaking, reconfiguring, cutting down the amount of text, and doing an overall SEO upgrade.

I know that I am gonna get a little more traffic but I am gonna up my conversion rate significantly.

Doing A/B testing w/ analytics tools to track can also be a great way to see if changes in organization work. Sometimes we only THINK we know what the customer wants.

I use tracking and analytics tools... working on a profit/day metric that goes beyond the ROI that is most frequently pointed to.

There are lots of simpler metrics such as requiem's... checking the cash register.

Plus, I have some of my own metrics such as sales/traffic, profit/traffic which also give some measure of how well something is working - or not working.
