I agree with you and that is what Google and other search engines want that one should not be able to influence it's rankings !!

I first thought Google was going crazy when I found a website (and I think all of us had this experience) that had nothing to do with the kw I searched. Only when reading the post about Marissa that I realised the backlinks plays a bigger role. I found that these sites that apperantly had nothing to do with the kw I was searching on had links from sites stacked with these kw's. It is not the only factor though as this is not always true! But a BIG factor it is. (And it makes sense)

What I would say that NO one factor drives results, Optimized website, Keyword relavance, Back Links, PR...all together get u listed higher in the SERPS.

I'm thinking the same way, perhaps using something like "Optilink" to examine a potential link partners page topic and incoming link reputation yes?;) Nice to hear I am not the only one thinking along these lines.

Yes I agree but look at the 3,930,000 search results for cell phones: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...8&q=cell+phones Site number #9 doesn't have much going for it but good on topic, high PR backlinks, cached version is the same and it has been like this for the last 2 weeks to my knowledge. :-| Last edited by thewormman : April 17th, 2004 at 03:43 PM. |

I agree...I see several links of this type still enjoying high rankings in the SERPS.

I have also made the suggestion to Google to include a button on the Google Toolbar to report spam sites (a la Cloudmark) and then include the option to have the site excluded from all search results on my PC while Google decides whether or not to remove the offending site. That way at least it would no longer appear in my search results.
URL "Trying to deceive (spam) our web crawler by means of hidden text, deceptive cloaking or doorway pages compromises the quality of our results and degrades the search experience for everyone. We think that's a bad thing. If your Google search returns a result that you suspect is spam, please let us know using this form. We investigate each report of deceptive practices thoroughly and take appropriate action when abuse is uncovered. At minimum, we will use the data from each spam report to improve our site ranking and filtering algorithms. The result of this should be visible over time as the quality of our searches gets even better. In especially egregious cases, we will remove spammers from our index immediately, so they do not show up in search results at all. Other steps will be taken as necessary. Google appreciates your taking the time to help us improve our service for web searchers around the world. By helping us eliminate spam, you are saving millions of people time, effort and energy. We think that's a good thing. " |
