SEO Clicks

I'm thinking overture ppc may be a better campain choice for one of my customers.... I suspect that seo pros generate lots of clickthru's on Google adwords when cunducting research....

any thoughts out there....? Think most the researching seo's are trying both or are they consentrating on whats going on with google...

I myself , when researching ad campains - only look on google - and I don't click the ads, just in case your wondering... - but I'm sure lots of others do.....

I have had no sucess with adwords and it's been quite some time since I used Overture... I'm considering giving Overture another shot...

SEO pros and real users use different keywords. The key to adWord success is to figure out keywords that users use.

Thumbs up

I have one customer who uses both PPC and has a site ranked #3 for his best keywords. His feeling is dominate the industry.

If you combine a good PPC campaign (well chosen keywords)
Yahoo Results
Google Results
Other SE Results

You have provided your customer with 4 streams of targetted traffic. If one slows down the other make up the difference.

If you use Google's and Overture's tools together you can see what the CTR is for certain keywords. Usually they are only 1-2% which is not very high.

But if you use the tools corectly you can get 4 or 5 ads in the top 2 positions at a rate much smaller than the top keyword.

Look at the cost per click Google gives you in their tool.

Much better to get 4.3 clicks per day at $0.25
than 5.5 clicks per day at $0.55

Maybe. It really doesn't matter. ROI = clicks * CPC - Marin * total revenue.

If clicks are dodgy, that just reduces the price you can effectively bid. People focus too much on this issue. Its an ad. You pay for clicks. Not every clkick will elad to business.

i think that means that seos use words like 'optimization' and 'serps'.
but real people use words like 'good ranking' and 'top listing'.
...not really sure how that is relevant to the discussion though.

You have to be on top of your game. If you don't have the time or the inclination to figure out ROI for each keyword you bid on, then don't bother doing it, you will most likely be wasting your money. Overture and Adwords (google) give you their conversion tracking tools these days to help with ROI tracking. I don't put 100% faith in them, but they are better than nothing and probably give you a pretty accurate picture of what is going on. If you can't use their conversion counter tools, then you are really at a disadvantage. We have some pretty serious tracking employed on our sites (all custom built to track all of this stuff) and if you don't have anything like that, you cannot accurately figure out what you should be paying for each keyword/keyphrase. And, that puts you and/or your client at a serious disadvantage.

Exclamation PPC and Adsense

PPC is great until your competitior or adsense publisher is not after you, otherwise your CTR will zoom+ and your conversion will zoom-. But google is doing a good job in keeping fraudulent clicks in adsense to minimum.
