Is it possible to track from PPC using AWStats
Hi, I have a campaign running with URLs like this:
www.blah.com/index.php?ad=google1 www.blah.com/index.php?ad=overture1 Is it possible to use the AWStats package to tell me where people coming in from these URLs go, or just the final page they hit? I just want to know if they go to the bookings page, which counts as a conversion on the site. Previously when I've done this, I've set a cookie when people enter the site and then checked for it on the conversion page, but I don't have anything to do that in PHP so I was hoping I could use something like AWStats to track them as all the info is in the logs somewhere. Thanks for any help

The version of AwStats that I have will not do that.
Google and Overture have very good tracking and all you need to do is insert a code snippet on your conversion page. Also for great info on this see the BOOK.... Search Engine Advertising by Catherine Seda. Goes into this stuff in great detail (was a little heavy for me in some places)... but this book was well worth the time to STUDY and I still reread portions when I need ideas.

If you have cPanel and no referral pages from Google or Overture are shown in your AwStats, do the following to fix it:
Assuming you have root access, type via shell: cd /usr/local/cpanel/etc/ (hit enter) pico awstats.conf Look for "Set URLWithQuery=0" or "URLWithQuery=0" Replace "0" with "1" and Save then Exit. Hope this helps. |

Agreed!
If you can change the awstats configurations this can easily be done. The problem is....most hosts won't let you play with that one. |

Programs like "ClickTracks" can show where customers go once they get there. Clickstream analysis.....but it costs some money. I stick with AwStats because it's free

One of my friends is using Mach5 and it has a nice little map of your site where you can see where people have come from and where they go next. It costs some money as well, but it has some neat features and the map thing is easy enough to show to clients and they can understand it straight away.
(I didn't know about Mach5 when I did the original post on this thread, and I haven't tried to get it to do what I've asked about either, it just has this handy analysis.) |
