market shares are different

Google has things tied up much more in the Uk than anywhere else in the world I have encountered.

The figures I have encountered that I find trustable and accurate are

google.co.uk 70% of searches
msn.co.uk 8% of searches
yahoo.co.uk 7% of searches
google.com 7% of searches
everyone else 9%

Over here google is virtually everything search engine wise, so get your adwords campaign bang on and everything else drops into place.

yahoo.co.uk does a ppc here too - as does mirago - which is much cheaper...

Yes but Overture here in the states is full of click fraud. How about in the UK?

Google is the search engine of choice here in the UK. Yahoo seems to have lost its popularity over the past couple of years.

I have UK and US yahoo accounts. Two differences I notice.

The first is cost... the UK PPCs for the terms I'm working with are way higher than the US (current exchange rate doesn't help).

But the second is the most concerning...

Click fraud! Wow... my US yahoo clicks are no problem, but the UK clicks some days have no correlation to the weblogs.

Click fraud in UK yahoo is a very serious problem. In fact, I shut down my UK yahoo because it was out of control and I couldn't find the time to deal with it. Now I'm running a limited campaign and checking the weblogs daily. And I am in the process of presenting this stuff to yahoo with a claim but it takes me so long to nail it all down.

funnily enough it is google that I have all my big click fraud issues for uk advertising. Yahoo traffic seems pretty genuine.

I will look more closely after hearing that other people are having problems.

I think your differences in click fraud between google and yahoo is probably based on what words you are targeting. Different target markets will have different levels of fraud on the two search engines.

I did some overture advertising when we first set up our business and the money melted away via what I perceived as blatant click fraud, so I knocked it on the head.

Having given a recent look at Overture again it doesn't look to me that they have improved. The very high starting price is pretty uncompetitive and they don't make it easy to do business with them, so I've knocked it back on the head before I've even started.

Doing UK PPC is probably google or nothing. I had to stop the Content part of Google Adwords, almost immediately as you would get many clicks and absolutely no sales.

Now that you can pay for impressions and select the actual websites you actually appear on, I've restarted a page impressions campaign, which allows me to keep an eye on where my ads are seen.
