    When should you use PPC?

As a client rather than a SEO technician on this forum, I would like to know if anyone has any experience or opinion on when to recommend using PPC. I wonder in big city with large population and lots of competition PPC may be more warranted as compared to smaller town with only two leading businesses fighting for the same market.

    Good question.

Personally I have always seen massive advantages to using PPC advertising. I have worked for companies and had clients that have seen real benefits from using PPC including increased traffic and sales. The great thing, from an SEO's perspective, about PPC such as Google Adwords is that you get a large amount of data that is also highly measurable.

Ultimately, what I'm getting at is that I would always suggest using PPC advertising if it makes sense financially for a business. If a company can afford to allocate a set amount of money per month for PPC then why not use it? The key then is optimizing PPC campaigns to fully maximize the ads' efficiency. If done correctly, the money spent on PPC can more than pay for itself through sales conversions.

    When should you use PPC?

Good idea and I agree with you. Many people think PPC is costly and it would not work. I always advice my clients for doing PPC because it is the best way to increase your website traffic and to get early results. The another point I would like to add in your comment is if you are using a PPC then there will be a less chance of banning your website from Google.

    Post Ppc

"The problem with Pay per Click is when Google is the only company getting rich”

We regularly encounter companies who spend excess of £1000 per month on PPC alone with poor returns. This is a budget-dependent model that is vulnerable to bidding wars and rate increases. Most importantly, it does little to increase the value of their website, while increasing Google's profit margin.

As I mentioned before, I am a client rather than a SEO technician. I'm having my website upgraded right now with a SEO firm that have been very service oriented. They can provide monthly maintenance program or I can forego the monthly maintenance completely and pay them an hourly rate whenever I choose to have some work done on my site. Also, they are not giving me an ultimatum that if I don't sign up for their maintenance program now, that I can never have that option in the future. If conditions change and I decide I need someone to maintain my site monthly, I can sign up anytime I want. Because of these conditions, I decided to explore the possibility of using the pay-per-click feature offered by Google. I found out for a small business like ours, PPC can turn out to be rather expensive. According to Google representive, our cost will vary from $1 to $3 per click depending on the word that will be targeted in the Google search. If we assume an average of $2 per click and there's fifteen clicks per day, that amounts to over $1000 per month (including tax). At this cost, I would definitely not spend hundreds of dollars in monthly maintenance fee to a SEO firm (in addition to PPC). It just has to be one or the other. The question I have is I'm wondering if it will make any difference if I try PPC for 2-3 months now with our new website or wait a few months before I try it. Either way I might learn what kind of budget we'll have to establish if we decide to stick with PPC. If the PPC costs run in the thousands per month, I'll have to drop it and turn to more controlled costs by turning to the monthly maintenance program with a good SEO firm and hope for the best.

If you are thinking about doing PPC yourself you should read Advanced Google AdWords by Brad Geddes twice and then attend one of his two day training sessions.

This is not light reading. It is close to a difficult math class. His training sessions are not something that you will go to, sit there, sip coffee and fart. They are heavy in math and spreadsheets. Most people go there ready for coffee and farting and leave after the first day because they got burned out on the math.

Success at PPC is a math game on top of a word game.

If you do this study and invest yourself you will be paid back with a chance of success (no guarantee) against the smart and dedicated people who make money at PPC.

If you think "I can do this" and don't do the math and the conversion tracking then you will be pissing your money way. Lots of the pros who take money for PPC can't do the math and don't have any idea if you are making money or losing money. If you do hire someone to do this for you insist on seeing the math on a regular basis as competition and bidding change over time.

If I was you I would invest in the SEO and at the same time start reading that book and getting myself to his training.

If you work really hard and are lucky then one of these routes will work. If you are really smart, do the math and hire a good SEO you will run your competitors out of town.

Crimson Penguin gave you some good advice above... Pay no attention to the other one sentence answers. PPC isn't that simple.

    Good luck.

Buying links is a totally different subject.

Maybe you should start a new thread about that and see what people say?

    pay per click

Pay per click as itself mentioned in the name pay means money or cost. The pay per click method used when the product is buying or selling through internet. It also increases the traffic of the website.

    In short,
To get a lot of traffic in very short time, use PPC ads.
