I've moved this thread since it has nothing to do with Google.

Please, Hannah9, take the time to browse the forum for other threads on Alexa There might be some eye-openers in there already

Alexa rank purely based on website traffic. Might be your competitor get high traffic. That's why they get high ranking on alexa.

The Alexa rank has nothing to do with seo, if you want to know how there numbers/stats work please checkout there information pages.

Thread closed as it holds no value and thinking too much about Alexa is a waste of time and brain power! Look at your SE rankings, bounce rate, conversion and other real visitor stats and work on improving those, because those are what matter! Not a random Alexa number from a small percentage of people.

Oh... and to add (in a nutshell):

Alexa ranks are only based on page views by people who have the Alexa Toolbar installed.
They are still quite easy to fix, so they don't really mean anything. They're a rough estimation of website traffic at best.
If some website jumps ahead, then most likely the webmaster found a way to tweak the data. That said, the result will
be minimal: not more REAL humans visiting said website, no increase in conversions or income.

Only when you're selling your website to someone who's easily impressed with Alexa rankings, should you be concerned
    with Alexa rankings.
