Yes. This whole forum, SEOChat, is dedicated to that very subject.

Read all the posts, then come back with any specific questions you have left.

    Good luck.

    Hello,
You need to do off page optimization for your website for link building you need to do directory submission, forum post, thread reply, blog post and comment.

Google are devaluing (most of) the link types above because these "easy" links often offer little value to the audience.

Building links is not a numbers game but a quality game. They are valued on the following:

    The authority of the page/domain
    The placement of the link
    Destination of link
    Amount of links on page
Amount of outbound links on page
    Type of link (text/image)

So, this means you need to identify high quality target sites/pages that you want a link from (use opensiteexplorer's Domain/Page Authority figures as a guideline) and assess how best to leverage a link from them.

By far the most effective strategy (aside from flashing the cash) is to produce content that has a purpose/use and outclasses any similar content.

Find out what people are searching for or what questions are being asked in your niche using Answers.com/Yahoo Answers/Quora/Twitter Search/Gut instinct and produce content at addresses those questions. Contact your chosen site's owners through email, social media etc and use this as leverage to get your link. You could host the content on your own site which (with promotion) could garner even more links or, if your own site has little traffic, you can agree to "guest publish" the content on their site with a nice in-content link back to your site.

In all but the most competitive markets you only need several of these juicy links to rise above your competitors assuming you have got your on-page SEO right. Lets look at those link value factors a little closer:

The authority of the page/domain - As above

The placement of the link - The value of a link depends on whether it offers value to the resource it is contributing to. If no one clicks on the link (could be buried on page 3 of a links page, it could be hidden in a footer, or lost in a sea of hundreds of blog comments) then it offers no value to the reader. However if it is embedded clearly in the body of an article or content page, it is more likely to be read over and clicked. Plus with optimised anchor text no longer playing a part, use this to your advantage and use intriguing text/call to action instead for better CTR.

Destination of link - The destination must offer value otherwise why would someone link to you?

Amount of links on page & Amount of outbound links on page - link equity gets diluted with more links on a page. Plus links further down on a page get less value than links higher on the page (crawled first).

Type of link (text/image) - most believe text links offer more value that image links, but sometimes image links are more appropriate/more likely to get clicked so think about what would work best in the individual situation.

Bit of an essay but I hope this helps!
