Yahoo studies up on search

Yahoo hiring more people for research lab... One thing I found interesting was "Related to search, for example, the lab will focus on how to personalize the experience for people across the Yahoo network. "

I see a big area for the future being location based search - browsing the internet on your pda/mobile phone, it knows where you are and could combine that with keywords to give you the nearest and most relevant.

Google has already ventured into this arena by allowing you to search just within your home town and I know for a fact that google plans to beat Yahoo to the punch on searching directions etc. from your mobile

Does anyone here know what the proportion of search traffic is on the various search engines there days? Back in the old days it used to be that Yahoo got at least 40 million visitors/day. It seems in the past 2-3 years that Google has taken over 1st place. Is there some place on the web where these stats are updated on a monthly basis?

an interesting article.

one thing others have pointed out that I agree with completely, yahoo has advantages google doesn't. it's been saving user info on its users with the user ids. if they use this in the serps algos, they could have a real advantage

I tend to think of Yahoo as the second Microsoft.

Maybe Yahoo are going to create an engine that knows what you want to search for, before you do. Now that'd grab some attention.
